Target Information
Neutrophil elastase is secreted by neutrophils during inflammation. Its primary role is to destroy bacteria and host tissue. Elastase 2, neutrophil is encoded by the ELANE gene in the dog. It is synthesized during early myeloid development with maximal expression at the early promyelocyte stage during primary granule formation. It is a major bactericidal protein that is also capable of digesting a wide range of substrates, including elastin, collagen, proteoglycans, cytokines, and complement proteins.
