Target Information

Desmoglein-1 (DSG1) is a protein that plays a critical role in cell-cell adhesion within the skin epidermis. It is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein found in desmosomes. Desmosomes are specialized cell-cell junctions that provide strong adhesion between adjacent epithelial cells. Desmoglein-1 is encoded by the DSG1 gene in dogs. Research has shown that desmoglein-1 is a minor autoantigen in dogs with pemphigus foliaceus.
