Target Information

Pantetheinase (also known as Vanin 1) is an amidohydrolase enzyme that specifically hydrolyzes a carboamide linkage in D-pantetheine, thus recycling pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and releasing cysteamine. In a colitis model, vnn1 knockout mice (vnn1KO) exhibited improved survival and reduced intestinal damage, associated with higher glutathione (GSH) levels and lower expression of inflammatory factors. Additionally, Vanin-1 indirectly stimulates the production of inflammatory mediators by inhibiting the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ), thereby modulating inflammatory responses in intestinal epithelial cells.

Target/Biomarker Mouse VNN1
Target Synonym Pantetheinase; Pantetheine hydrolase; Tiff66; Vascular non-inflammatory molecule 1
Gene ID 22361
UniProt ID Q9Z0K8
