Swine alpha-2-heremans schmid glycoprotein, also known as fetuin-A, is a serum protein that is abundantly secreted into the bloodstream. It serves as a carrier for metals and small molecules and is involved in the inhibition of ectopic calcification, playing a critical role in preventing unwanted mineralization in the body. In swine, fetuin-A contributes to maintaining bone tissue homeostasis and is a physiological inhibitor of bone calcification.
