Target Information

SEB is a potent superantigen secreted by Staphylococcus aureus. It bypasses normal antigen processing by binding directly to MHC class II molecules and specific T-cell receptor (TCR) Vβ regions. This interaction triggers a massive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (cytokine storm), leading to food poisoning and potentially fatal toxic shock syndrome. Structurally, it consists of two major domains and is highly resistant to heat and digestive proteases, making it a significant clinical and biodefense concern.
