Target Information
Mouse Cytosolic Phospholipase A2 (Pla2g4a) is a key enzyme involved in lipid metabolism and the inflammatory response. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of membrane phospholipids, releasing arachidonic acid (AA), which is a precursor for the synthesis of eicosanoids such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. These lipid mediators play crucial roles in inflammation, immune responses, and various physiological processes. Pla2g4a is activated by increases in intracellular calcium levels, which facilitate its translocation to intracellular membranes. In mouse models, Pla2g4a has been implicated in the regulation of lung cancer progression and metastasis, with studies showing that Pla2g4a knockout mice exhibit reduced tumor growth and metastasis. Additionally, Pla2g4a has been shown to contribute to ferroptotic resistance in prostate cancer cells by promoting the release of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which synergizes with antioxidants to prevent cell death. These findings highlight the multifaceted role of Pla2g4a in both normal physiological processes and disease pathogenesis.
