Target Information
Mouse Bile Acid Receptor (Nr1h4), also known as farnesoid X receptor (FXR), is a nuclear receptor that plays a crucial role in regulating bile acid homeostasis, lipid metabolism, and glucose homeostasis. FXR is predominantly expressed in the liver and intestine, where it senses bile acids and regulates their synthesis and transport. Activation of FXR leads to the repression of bile acid production through the negative feedback loop involving the small heterodimer partner (SHP). FXR also modulates lipid and glucose metabolism by regulating the expression of key enzymes and transporters. In mouse models, FXR has been shown to protect against liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cholestasis.
