Target Information
Mouse Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2e1) is a key enzyme in the cytochrome P450 family, involved in the metabolism of various endogenous and exogenous compounds, including ethanol, drugs, and carcinogens. It is highly expressed in the liver and plays a crucial role in the oxidative metabolism of ethanol, contributing to approximately 10% of ethanol metabolism. Cyp2e1 is also involved in the activation of procarcinogens and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can lead to oxidative stress and cellular damage. In neuroinflammation, elevated levels of Cyp2e1 have been observed in hippocampal tissues of mouse models, and genetic ablation of Cyp2e1 has been shown to improve spatial learning and memory, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target.
