Target Information
Guinea pig Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A (VEGFA) is a key protein involved in angiogenesis and vascular development. It promotes the proliferation and migration of vascular endothelial cells, playing a crucial role in both physiological and pathological angiogenesis. In guinea pigs, VEGFA expression has been studied in the context of form-deprivation myopia (FDM), where it was found that VEGFA levels decrease in the choroid of myopic guinea pigs. This reduction in VEGFA is associated with decreased choroidal blood flow and vascular density, which may contribute to the progression of myopia. Additionally, VEGFA has been implicated in the regulation of choroidal hemodynamics and vascular density in the eye, making it a potential therapeutic target for myopia and other ocular conditions.
