Target Information
Mouse Bactericidal Permeability-Increasing Protein (Bpi) is a key component of the immune system, primarily found in neutrophils. It plays a crucial role in host defense against gram-negative bacteria by binding to lipopolysaccharides (LPS) on the bacterial surface, leading to increased membrane permeability and bacterial death. Bpi is also involved in the regulation of immune responses, including the activation of the NF-κB pathway and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In mouse models, Bpi deficiency results in increased susceptibility to bacterial infections, highlighting its importance in innate immunity.
