Target Information
In dogs, the APOC1 gene encodes Apolipoprotein C1. This protein acts as an inhibitor of lipoprotein binding to several receptors, including the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, the LDL receptor-related protein, and the very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) receptor. Apolipoprotein C1 is found in high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins within the plasma, making up about 10% of the protein content in VLDL and 2% in HDL. It seems to inhibit fatty acid uptake directly and is the major plasma inhibitor of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP).
