Target Information
Mouse Cystatin-C (Cst3) is a cysteine protease inhibitor that plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes. It is a member of the cystatin superfamily and is involved in regulating the activity of cysteine proteases, particularly cathepsins. Cst3 is highly expressed in the brain and is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). In these conditions, Cst3 can bind to amyloid-beta (Aβ) and inhibit its aggregation, which is a hallmark of AD pathology. Additionally, Cst3 has been shown to have neuroprotective effects by promoting autophagy and reducing neuronal apoptosis.
