Target Information
Goat lactotransferrin is a multifunctional glycoprotein that plays a vital role in the immune system, particularly in the first line of defense against pathogens. It is known for its antimicrobial properties, including antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal activities. Lactotransferrin can bind to iron, depriving bacteria of this essential nutrient and exerting a bacteriostatic effect. It also has the ability to directly interact with infectious microorganisms, causing cell lysis due to its positively charged amino acids interacting with anionic molecules on microbial surfaces. In goats, lactotransferrin is found in various secretions, including milk, and contributes to the overall health and well-being of the animal by supporting its immune function.
