Target Information
Mouse Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) is a vital transcription factor regulating cellular processes like proliferation, survival, and immune responses. When cytokines or growth factors bind to receptors, JAKs phosphorylate STAT3, prompting it to form dimers and translocate to the nucleus. There, it activates genes crucial for cell growth and anti-apoptotic effects. STAT3 knockout in mice leads to developmental defects, underscoring its role in early development. In research, STAT3 is studied for its role in cancer progression, as it's often constitutively active in many cancers. It's also explored in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory conditions. STAT3's interactions with other proteins, like P300, are studied for their role in kidney disease signaling. Overall, STAT3 is crucial for mediating cellular responses to signals and maintaining normal physiological functions.
