Target Information
Mouse Agouti-Related Protein (Agrp) is a neuropeptide that plays a crucial role in regulating energy balance and appetite. It is primarily expressed in the hypothalamus and acts as an inverse agonist of the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R), promoting food intake and energy storage. Agrp is also involved in the regulation of stress responses and thermogenesis. In mouse models, overexpression of Agrp leads to hyperphagia and obesity, while its deficiency results in reduced food intake and resistance to diet-induced obesity. Additionally, Agrp has been implicated in the regulation of circadian rhythms and sleep patterns.
