Target Information

Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP-2), one of the four members of the TIMP family, plays a crucial role in regulating the extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell surface proteins. Tissue Inhibitors Of Metalloproteinase 2 is encoded by the TIMP2 gene in horses. The resident articular cells, chondrocytes and synovial fibroblasts, are able to produce both TIMP-1 and TIMP-2, while peripheral blood monocytes can only produce the higher molecular weight TIMP-1 in a equine model.
