Target Information
Chicken Coagulation Factor X (F10) is a critical component of the blood coagulation cascade, essential for the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, which ultimately leads to the formation of a stable blood clot. This protein is synthesized as a zymogen and undergoes vitamin K-dependent processing to become an active serine protease. In chickens, as in other species, Factor X is activated by either Factor IXa (intrinsic pathway) or Factor VIIa (extrinsic pathway) to form Factor Xa. Activated Factor Xa then catalyzes the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin in the presence of Factor Va, calcium ions, and phospholipids. Deficiencies or mutations in the F10 gene can lead to bleeding disorders characterized by impaired blood clotting.
