Target Information
Chicken Angiogenin (ANG) is a member of the pancreatic ribonuclease superfamily with potent angiogenic properties. It was first isolated from conditioned medium of human colon cancer cells and is capable of inducing new blood vessel formation in various systems, including the chicken chorioallantoic membrane. ANG plays a crucial role in embryonic development, particularly in the formation of the vascular system. It also exhibits ribonucleolytic activity, which is essential for its angiogenic function. In addition to its role in angiogenesis, ANG has been implicated in neuroprotection and immune regulation. Mutations in the ANG gene have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease. In chickens, ANG is likely involved in the development of the vascular system and may have applications in studying developmental biology and neurodegenerative conditions.
