Target Information

Mouse Solute Carrier Family 2, Facilitated Glucose Transporter Member 4 (Slc2a4), also known as GLUT4, is a key glucose transporter involved in insulin-regulated glucose uptake. It is predominantly expressed in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and adipose tissue. GLUT4 is stored in intracellular vesicles and translocates to the plasma membrane in response to insulin stimulation, facilitating glucose entry into cells. This process is crucial for maintaining glucose homeostasis and is often studied in the context of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In mouse models, GLUT4 is used to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and glucose intolerance.
