Target Information

Haptoglobin is a protein produced by the liver. Its primary function is to find and attach itself to free hemoglobin in the blood. Haptoglobin is encoded by the goat gene HP. Haptoglobin is a blood protein whose levels in animals can be affected by infection, inflammation, surgical trauma or stress. It may provide an alternative means of monitoring animal health.
