Target Information

Plasmin is a serine protease responsible for dissolving fibrin blood clots. It is released from the liver into the systemic circulation in an inactive form known as plasminogen (PLG). In the bloodstream, plasminogen assumes a closed conformation that is resistant to activation. In a rabbit abdominal aortic thrombosis model, activation of fibrinogen by intravenous injection of urokinase effectively dissolves thrombi without causing bleeding. In addition, the activity of fibrinogen was also regulated in rabbit vascular endothelial cells by inhibitors that prevented the activation of fibrinogen.
