Target Information
Matrix Metalloproteinase 2, also referred to as 72 kDa type IV collagenase, is encoded by the MMP2 gene in rabbits. This ubiquitous metalloproteinase plays a critical role in a variety of processes, including the remodeling of vasculature, angiogenesis, tissue repair, tumor invasion, inflammation, and the rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. In addition to breaking down extracellular matrix proteins, it also acts on several non-matrix proteins like big endothelin 1 and beta-type CGRP, which promote vasoconstriction. MMP2 plays a role in renal fibrosis, therefore it may be relevant to renal research that utilizes rabbits.
