Target Information

COL1A2, along with COL1A1 (collagen type I, alpha 1 chain), forms the triple-helical structure of type I collagen. Type I collagen provides tensile strength and structural support to tissues like bone, skin, tendons, and ligaments. COL1A2 contributes to the overall organization and integrity of the ECM. It plays a role in tissue development, repair, and remodeling. Type I collagen is part of group I collagen, known for forming fibrils. It is encoded by the COL1A2 gene. This gene produces multiple messages due to the presence of multiple polyadenylation signals, a characteristic common to most other collagen genes.
