Target Information

Oxysterols receptor LXR-alpha is a nuclear receptor known for its ligand-dependent transcriptional activation activity. Its interaction with the retinoic acid receptor (RXR) transforms RXR from a silent DNA-binding partner into an active ligand-binding subunit, mediating retinoid responses through target genes defined by LXRES. In mice, LXRα (liver X receptor α) primarily plays a role in cholesterol metabolism, lipid homeostasis, and the progression of related diseases. In the liver, LXRα is crucial for maintaining cholesterol balance. Mice lacking LXRα experience cholesterol accumulation, whereas LXRα agonists can restore normal cholesterol metabolism.
