Target Information
Rat Spermidine/Spermine N1-Acetyltransferase 1 (SAT1) is a cytosolic acetyltransferase that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in polyamine catabolism, converting spermidine or spermine to their N1-acetylated forms using acetyl-CoA. The enzyme is expressed in liver, kidney, and brain, where it controls intracellular polyamine pools, influences cell growth, differentiation, and oxidative-stress responses. SAT1 activity is rapidly induced by polyamine analogs, hormones, and xenobiotics, enabling metabolic adaptation. As the key regulator of polyamine turnover, SAT1 is an important target for studies of polyamine homeostasis, aging, and cancer metabolism.
