Target Information

Rat protein C is a vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the anticoagulant pathway. It is synthesized in the liver and circulates in the blood as an inactive zymogen. Upon activation by thrombin-thrombomodulin complexes, activated protein C (APC) inhibits coagulation by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa, thus preventing excessive blood clotting. Protein C also has anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective effects.
