Rat MYLK2 is a cytoplasmic serine/threonine kinase with conserved catalytic and calmodulin-binding domains that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It is highly enriched in striated muscle cell populations and associates with contractile cytoskeletal assemblies. Its multi-domain enzymatic structure and muscle-specific expression differentiate it from transmembrane receptors, soluble secreted cytokines and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and ubiquitous expression across non-contractile somatic tissues.
