Target Information

Rat cytochrome P450 7A1 is a 55 kDa hepatic microsomal enzyme whose hydrophobic substrate pocket converts cholesterol to 7α-hydroxycholesterol, initiating bile-acid synthesis. A solvent-exposed 16-residue "QEK" loop (aa 220-235) between helices F and G folds into a β-hairpin unique among rat P450 isoforms, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native CYP7A1 in hepatocyte peroxisomes, portal-zone ER, and bile-duct epithelia, delivering crisp reticular staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to CYP7B1 or CYP8B1.
