Target Information
Mouse transmembrane protease, serine 2 (TMPRSS2) is a 54-kDa type II transmembrane serine protease predominantly expressed in murine epithelial tissues (prostate, lung, intestine) and airway epithelial cells. It mediates proteolytic activation of growth factors, receptors, and viral glycoproteins via cleavage of peptide bonds, regulating epithelial barrier function, tissue remodeling, and cell signaling. Critical for murine prostate development, airway homeostasis, and host-pathogen interactions, it facilitates entry of respiratory viruses by priming their spike proteins. Dysregulated expression associates with prostate cancer, inflammatory lung diseases, and viral pathogenesis in mouse models. As a key mediator of proteolytic signaling and viral entry, mouse TMPRSS2 is a critical target for studying epithelial pathobiology, cancer progression, and antiviral therapeutics.
