Target Information
Mouse activating transcription factor 7 (ATF7) is a 52 kDa bZIP protein whose N-terminal kinase-inducible domain docks phosphorylated cofactors while a C-terminal DNA-binding groove clamps AP-1/CRE motifs. A solvent-exposed 16-aa "QEL" hinge (aa 165-180) links the two modules, folding into a β-hairpin unique among ATF family members; this epitope survives aldehyde fixation and antigen retrieval. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this hinge trace native ATF7 in hippocampal nuclei, splenic lymphocytes, and stress granules, yielding crisp punctate staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to ATF2 or CREB.
