Target Information

Quinolinic Acid (QA) is a dicarboxylic acid with a pyridine backbone. It is a downstream product of the kynurenine pathway, which metabolizes the amino acid tryptophan. Quinolinic acid serves as the biosynthetic precursor to niacin (vitamin B3). Quinolinic acid acts as an agonist for the NMDA receptor. It has a potent neurotoxic effect. Studies suggest its involvement in various psychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative processes in the brain.
