Target Information
6-Phosphogluconate Dehydrogenase, Decarboxylating is encoded by the PGD gene in pigs. 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase is an enzyme in the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) that catalyzes the conversion of 6-phosphogluconate to an unstable form of 3-keto-6-phosphogluconate. This reaction yields a co-enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) as a byproduct. The protein is a homodimer, where each monomer acts independently. Each monomer contains a large, mainly alpha-helical domain and a smaller beta-alpha-beta domain with a mixed parallel and anti-parallel 6-stranded beta sheet.
