Target Information
Homocysteine is an amino acid produced by the body during the normal breakdown of proteins. Elevated levels of homocysteine, a condition known as hyperhomocysteinemia, can indicate specific health issues. High homocysteine levels are often associated with deficiencies in vitamins B6, B12, or folate. Measurement of the concentration of homocysteine in plasma as a metabolic indicator of reduced methylation capability of sheep on typical pastures in New Zealand appeared to have little value in detection of vitamin B12 responsiveness.
