Specifications
Target Information
Hypoxanthine Phosphoribosyltransferase 1 (HPRT1) converts guanine to guanosine monophosphate and hypoxanthine to inosine monophosphate by transferring the 5-phosphoribosyl group from 5-phosphoribosylpyrophosphate onto the purine. It is central to the generation of purine nucleotides via the purine salvage pathway. In mice, HPRT1 is primarily involved in regulating purine metabolism, cell growth, and proliferation, and is significant in disease models. Its absence in mice leads to uric acid buildup, triggering pathological conditions akin to Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. For instance, knocking out the HPRT1 gene in mouse embryonic stem cells using gene-editing technology reveals that mice exhibit an inability to accumulate uric acid normally, along with traits related to Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, such as neurodevelopmental disorders and behavioral abnormalities.
