Target Information

Tumor Necrosis Factor Beta, also known as Lymphotoxin-alpha, is a cytokine that, in its homotrimeric form, binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1, TNFRSF1B/TNFBR, and TNFRSF14/HVEM. In its heterotrimeric form with LTB, it binds to TNFRSF3/LTBR. Produced by lymphocytes, lymphotoxin is cytotoxic to a wide range of tumor cells both in vitro and in vivo. In mice, Lymphotoxin-alpha plays critical roles in the development of lymphoid organs, regulation of immune and inflammatory responses, and lymphangiogenesis. Mice deficient in LTα lack lymph nodes and Peyer's patches, exhibit abnormal spleen structure, but have normal thymus development. LTα is also essential for the formation of intestinal cryptopatches (CP), which are precursor structures for T cell aggregation.
