Target Information
Phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase is an enzyme that catalyzes the N-methylation of phenylethanolamine, converting it to N-methylphenylethanolamine. This metabolite is a precursor to various neuromodulators and signaling molecules, including epinephrine and norepinephrine. It is found in the cytoplasm of adrenal chromaffin cells. It is encoded by the bovine gene PNMT. It catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of epinephrine. PNMT regulates the production of essential neuromodulators involved in stress response, mood regulation, and other physiological processes.
