Target Information
Transcobalamin-2 is the main protein responsible for binding and transporting vitamin B12, ensuring the delivery of cobalamin to cells. In mice, the TCN2 gene is situated centrally on chromosome 11 and is closely linked to the hemoglobin alpha chain gene (HBA), indicating a complex genetic backdrop and association with specific genetic markers. Mouse macrophages, such as peritoneal macrophages, show a marked increase in TCN2 synthesis upon stimulation, highlighting a potential crucial role in vitamin B12 transport and metabolism. Additionally, TCN2 is significantly expressed in mouse intestinal epithelial cells, with expression levels showing considerable variation on the basement and basolateral membranes. These variations might be related to cell differentiation and function.
