Target Information

TRIP6 is crucial for ciliogenesis and the differentiation of ependymal cells in the mouse brain. It is expressed in both ependymal cells and choroid plexus epithelial cells, facilitating the growth and elongation of cilia through interactions with GRIP1 and myosin VI. When TRIP6 is absent, there is a noticeable reduction in the number and length of cilia, which impairs their normal function. Furthermore, TRIP6 plays a role in assembling the ciliary basal body, a vital step for cilia formation. In mice lacking TRIP6, approximately 43% exhibit obstructive hydrocephalus due to impaired differentiation of ependymal cells and cilia formation. Although there is no significant increase in intracerebral pressure, the primary causes of hydrocephalus are the diminished cilia and the thinning of the ependymal cell layer.
