Target Information

Bilirubin is a red-orange compound produced in the normal catabolic pathway that breaks down heme in vertebrates. It passes through the liver and is eventually excreted from the body. Elevated levels of bilirubin may indicate various liver or bile duct issues. Unlike human and most mammalian bile, avian bile contains low levels of bilirubin, with biliverdin being the predominant bile pigment.
