Target Information

Alpha-synuclein is a neuronal protein involved in various aspects of synaptic activity, including the regulation of synaptic vesicle trafficking and neurotransmitter release. As a monomer, it participates in synaptic vesicle exocytosis by enhancing vesicle priming, fusion, and the dilation of exocytotic fusion pores. In mice, α-synuclein has complex biological functions and may be critical for normal neuronal operations while also playing a pathogenic role in neurodegenerative diseases. For instance, studies have shown that abnormal expression of α-synuclein can lead to alterations in synaptic transmission, such as impaired synaptic plasticity and irregular regulation of synaptic proteins, underscoring its importance in neuronal function.
