Target Information

Synaptopodin-2 exhibits actin-binding and actin-bundling activities, inducing the formation of F-actin networks. At the sarcomeric Z lines, it is thought to function as an adapter protein, linking nascent myofibers to the sarcolemma via ZYX, and may play a role in the early assembly and stabilization of Z lines. In mice, synaptopodin-2 has several important functions, including the regulation of synaptic plasticity, maintenance of glomerular podocyte function, involvement in cancer development, and roles in neurons and muscle tissue. It regulates calcium release by forming clusters and participates in synaptic plasticity. Mice lacking synaptopodin-2 display defects in long-term potentiation (LTP), spatial memory impairment, and impaired synaptic plasticity.
