Target Information

NAD-dependent protein deacetylase sirtuin-3, also known as Sirtuin 3, is an enzyme that relies on NAD to modulate the acetylation state of mitochondrial proteins by deacetylating specific lysine residues. Sirt3 plays a crucial role in preserving mitochondrial function by regulating protein acetylation levels. It can deacetylate important mitochondrial enzymes like acetyl-CoA synthetase 2 (ACLY) and long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (LCAD), influencing fatty acid oxidation and energy metabolism. In mice lacking Sirt3, there is hyperacetylation of mitochondrial proteins, resulting in impaired fatty acid oxidation and the onset of metabolic syndrome-related diseases.
