Target Information

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is involved in the regulation of feeding and the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone. In mice, NPY's roles are primarily observed in studies related to anti-epileptic effects, appetite regulation, and obesity. NPY exhibits significant anti-epileptic properties, as mice lacking NPY are more susceptible to epilepsy. It also plays a crucial role in appetite regulation, promoting hunger and driving eating behavior through its dynamic secretion in specific hypothalamic areas, such as the paraventricular nucleus (PVN). Additionally, the absence of NPY can alleviate obesity symptoms in ob/ob mice, suggesting its influence on body weight through the regulation of energy metabolism and appetite.
