Target Information
Secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) is a soluble protein that functions as a modulator of Wnt signaling by directly interacting with Wnts. It plays a crucial role in regulating cell growth and differentiation in specific cell types by decreasing intracellular beta-catenin levels. In mice, the functions of SFRP1 are extensive and varied, encompassing roles from embryonic development to adult tissue repair and involvement in disease models. During mouse embryonic development, SFRP1 acts as a Wnt signaling pathway antagonist, inhibiting signal transduction by binding to Wnt ligands. Research indicates that SFRP1 and SFRP2 collectively regulate the elongation of the anterior-posterior axis of the thymic region and the integrity of embryonic body segmentation. When both SFRP1 and SFRP2 are biallelic, it results in a significant shortening of the thymic region due to the reduced AP axis and incomplete embryonic body segmentation.
