Target Information

Ryanodine receptor 1 (RyR1) is a cytosolic calcium-activated channel responsible for mediating the release of Ca²⁺ from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) into the cytosol, playing a crucial role in initiating muscle contraction after T-tubule depolarization. In mice, RyR1 is pivotal in regulating skeletal muscle excitation-contraction coupling and calcium ion signaling, with its dysfunction being linked to various diseases. RyR1 is essential in skeletal muscle, as it facilitates muscle contraction by releasing Ca²⁺ from the SR, which is central to the process of excitation-contraction coupling-where nerve signal activation results in Ca²⁺ release from the SR into the cytoplasm, thereby triggering muscle contraction.
