Target Information

In mice, the pyruvate dehydrogenase E1α gene has two major alleles: Pdha-1 and Pdha-2. Pdha-1 is located on the X chromosome and encodes a somatic cell-specific E1α subunit similar to that in humans, while Pdha-2 is located on an autosome and encodes an intronless subunit that is exclusively expressed in germ cells. The E1α subunit of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) is crucial in various physiological and pathological contexts in mice. Expression of Pdha-1 and Pdha-2 is tissue-specific, with Pdha-1 predominantly found in somatic cells and Pdha-2 uniquely in germ cells. Furthermore, Pdha-2 expression is tightly regulated during spermatogenesis, particularly at the spermatogonia stage.
