Target Information
Pik3c2a produces phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns3P) and phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate (PtdIns(3,4)P2), which function as second messengers. It plays a role in various intracellular trafficking events and is involved in insulin signaling and secretion. Pik3c2a is essential for the translocation of the glucose transporter SLC2A4/GLUT4 to the plasma membrane and for glucose uptake in response to insulin-mediated RHOQ activation. PIK3C2A is crucial for mouse development, with studies showing that loss of the PIK3C2A gene results in early embryonic death due to vascular development defects. Regarding metabolism, the expression level of PIK3C2A is associated with glucose and lipid metabolism. For instance, in mice on a high-fat diet, PIK3C2A expression is influenced by prebiotics in maternal milk.
