Target Information

Matrix Metalloproteinase 13 (MMP-13), also known as Collagenase 3, is involved in degrading extracellular matrix proteins, including fibrillar collagen, fibronectin, TNC, and ACAN. It cleaves triple helical collagens such as type I, type II, and type III, with the highest activity on soluble type II collagen, and can also degrade types IV, XIV, and X collagen. MMP-13 may also function by activating or degrading key regulatory proteins. In mice, MMP-13 is engaged in various biological processes, including bone development, cartilage degradation, inflammation regulation, tumor progression, and tissue repair. In sepsis models, MMP-13 helps regulate the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier by cleaving and activating tumor necrosis factor (TNF), thus protecting mice from intestinal damage induced by sepsis.
