Target Information

Interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) is a crucial transcriptional regulator of type I interferon (IFN)-dependent immune responses, playing a vital role in the innate immune defense against DNA and RNA viruses. It governs the transcription of type I IFN genes (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta) and interferon-stimulated genes (ISG) by binding to the interferon-stimulated response element (ISRE) in their promoters. In mice, IRF3 fulfills a wide range of functions including immune defense, inflammation regulation, metabolic regulation, cardiovascular protection, and tumor suppression. In a model of liver injury induced by a high-fat diet, the non-transcriptional role of IRF3 helps protect the liver from damage by regulating specific immune cell populations, such as Ly6C low monocytes.
