Target Information

Inositol polyphosphate-4-phosphatase type I A facilitates the hydrolysis of the 4-position phosphate in phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate, as well as inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate and inositol 1,4-bisphosphate. INPP4A is crucial for neuroprotection in the mouse brain, particularly within the cerebellum and hippocampus. Research indicates that knockout or mutation of the Inpp4a gene results in significant neurodegenerative changes in mice, including cerebellar atrophy and neuronal loss in the hippocampus, which are linked to movement disorders and abnormal behaviors. Furthermore, INPP4A contributes to neuroprotection in the central nervous system by managing glutamate excitotoxicity and preventing excitotoxic neuron death.
